About the Event

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Define current concepts related to unconscious and implicit bias
  • Identify how unconscious /bias impacts systems and access to service
  • Analyze the concepts of Ally-ship and de-biasing strategies

Bio

Sharon Travis is the prevention and outreach specialist at the Sexual Assault Center (Nashville, TN).  Originally from the Philadelphia, PA area, she has a Master of Arts in Civic Leadership from Lipscomb University and a Bachelor of Science from Tennessee State University. She possesses a passion for expanding prevention efforts that go upstream and stop sexual violence before there is a need for intervention and counseling. She works on community initiatives, creates awareness and delivers presentations with creativity, cultural sensitivity, and trauma/resiliency informed approaches. Building collective and positive community impact and innovative change strategies around the tough issue of sexual assault and sex positive education are the hallmark of her professional experience that spans over 25 years working with youth, college students and professionals.
